Clean regularly, but gently. More hygiene here doesn’t mean more products, but less irritation.
The period is still treated like a special condition. More odor, more shame, more “you have to be careful.” As a result, many reach for extra products, harsher cleaning, and more control. That this is exactly what can cause problems is treated as beside the point.
During your period, nothing fundamental changes about the anatomy. Blood is added to the mix.
Blood itself isn’t dirty, but it can develop an odor if it stays on the skin for a while. Water is enough to keep the outer intimate area clean. Washing too often, soaps, or intimate sprays, on the other hand, disturb the skin and its natural protective function.
Intimate hygiene here means: clean the outside, leave the inside alone.
“You have to wash more often and more thoroughly”
More regularly, yes. More thoroughly, no.
“You can’t do without an intimate wash lotion”
Yes, you can. Plain water is usually enough.
“Odor means poor hygiene”
Not necessarily. It often comes from products or trapped moisture, not from being unclean.
“Water isn’t enough for blood”
Yes, it is. Blood rinses off easily.
The period isn’t a hygiene problem. It doesn’t need any special effort, just a normal, respectful way of treating the body.
Try doing less for once. If your skin feels calmer, it was exactly right.
